The Santa Maria Public Library (SMPL) has enhanced its internet service at the Cuyama and Los Alamos branch libraries, providing a 30-fold increase in network speed and reliability. Through collaboration with the Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California (CENIC), rural communities now have access to high-speed internet access within this network. All library cardholders benefit by being able to efficiently do homework, search for jobs, video conference, and download documents.
In response to the heightened need for Wi-Fi resources during the pandemic, the Library secured a statewide grant that facilitates connectivity between academic institutions and the education research network. This integration is more secure and it lends itself to faster data transfer between these organizations.
