Book Mobile

The Santa Maria Public Library operates the Bookmobile to bring more accessible Library services to neighborhoods across the valley. Residents unable to travel to the Library can instead use the visiting Bookmobile to check out and return books, browse media available in English and Spanish, and even sign up for a library card at the Bookmobile’s many stops.

Since it began in 2020, the SMPL To Go Bookmobile has traveled thousands of miles within Santa Maria, stopping at parks and facilities to provide library services for more than 1,000 visitors each year. The Bookmobile issued more than 250 library cards last year, providing check outs of nearly 4,000 different books, audio, and video items.

The Bookmobile allows Santa Marians to enjoy Library services closer to home, increasing access while saving residents time and transit costs. The Bookmobile also provides computer use, Wi-Fi, and Makerspace and story times. This program aligns with the Santa Maria City Council’s priority to increase recreational opportunities to residents.
