Bike Paths
The City of Santa Maria has developed smarter and safer bike paths and lanes throughout the community,. Convenient bike routes serve many neighborhoods, connecting them to schools, parks, shopping, and work.
The City’s goal of creating a safer environment for cyclists—by day and at night—includes construction of bike paths that are separated, painted green, or lined with reflective beads. The Department of Public Works utilizes millions of dollars in State grant funding to design and build more bike paths and bike lanes throughout Santa Maria.
The City’s Bikeway Master Plan is designed to connect residential areas to social centers and foster safe cycling throughout the city. Bicycling is also a green method of transportation that helps reduce traffic congestion, energy consumption, pollution, and noise. These updated bike ways help support safety along with greater recreational and carbon-neutral transit in Santa Maria.
